Buenos Dias Amigos!

I’ve never wanted to go to Mexico. The government is corrupt. The soldiers and police are on the take. The country is a huge mess politically and bad things have happened to some tourists down there.

But I loved the week I just spent on the Mayan Riviera with its gracious people, its enviable climate and its spectacular views. I ask you – what’s not to like?  Oh yeah, bad things happen here at home, too.

Going as Erin Davis’ plus-one on a CHFI listener trip was a once in a lifetime experience.  Her wonderful husband Rob wasn’t able to go so I drew the winning lottery ticket. There wasnt a jerk in the group and that’s saying something when you’re taking 70 + people with you.   There are many places to swim at Bahia Principe and at nearby resorts.  This was one of our swimmin’ holes.

Not only is the resort huge with plenty of activities and amenities as well as places to hide and relax, it has a few tiers of admission. You can go as a singleton with a lower budget to the higher end that we enjoyed.  There are 11 restaurants, several massive buffets and 24-hour bar/snack bar locations.  One of the very first places we found was a covered, sandy area with hammocks.  Bliss.

Isn’t vacation funny for making you feel as if you’re exerting yourself, so dessert every night isn’t an indulgence but a necessity?  Not funny-funny, at least according to my bathroom scale.

Erin and Mike did their morning show from a room in the lobby and dozens of faithful listeners got up every day to attend the broadcast.

The mid-show hub-bub with Promotion Coordinator Jackie Gilgannon updating Erin and Mike on …something!  I only attended the whole show on Monday.  But I caught part of it every day!

And what would Mexico be without tequila?!!  A million 20-somethings on their first all-inclusive vacation don’t ever want to know.  They get creative with the bottles including this one we found in our resort’s gift shop. I thought this pose was appropriate to illustrate what actually drinking the contents would be like!

There will be more “Mexico” to come.  It was a terrific experience and it changed my mind about visiting the country.  Thank you CHFI and my beautiful friend Erin for the chance to experience it in fine style.  And thank you to my own radio station, 98.1 Free FM here in London, for allowing me to go.

  1. HA! LOVE the hammock shot – and that last “shot” of tequila, Lisa. Thanks for the heartfelt chats, the laughs, the wisdom, the silliness and just for reminding me how sweet friendship can be. Please thank Derek for sharing you with me for the week and most of all, thank you for coming along and making this listener trip special in so many ways. Oh – almost forgot – Day 1 without dessert and I am still alive. We can do this! LOL x
