Feeling Hot Hot Hot

When our ancestors decided to settle in Canada they left a legacy for the rest of us to complain about the weather.  And here we go with some very whine-worthy conditions!

Hot.  Humid.  I loathe it. My Mother loathes it and my grandmother probably did too. People always say things like, remember when it was too cold?  Well, yeah, I do remember but I don’t FEEL it right now so that doesn’t work for me.   Do you recall it so vividly that you actually enjoy being put in the dryer on high?

I have never, ever experienced heat like we had in Arizona and Nevada in the last few days of our recent motorcycle trip.  It wasn’t 43C with the humidity factored in.  It was 43C!  And even the meteorologists were saying the “dry heat” the desert is so well known for was out the window for this particular wave.  It felt as hot as it was, dry or not.  It was oppressive.  I took this over Derek’s shoulder on our way back to Nevada after spending five minutes in California – just to say we did!

motorcycle temperature gauge showing 110F

(it reads 94F – once it got up over 100F I wasn’t physically able to lift the camera to photograph it!)

It was a type of heat I’ve never known and I’ve known some heat in my day.  A long time ago a poorer version of myself lived in a building with no a/c and vowed like Scarlett O’Hara on the lawn of Tara that I would never live without it again!

Stay cool!  This is what sundresses were made for.  Guys… you’ve got shorts!

  1. During this repressive heat and humidity, its our furry friends who I get very concerned about and we’ve already had 2 idiots this year. My guy, he’s getting the day off and can just hang out in the A/C.

    1. You’re so right Allan. People don’t realize how fast a car can heat up. And when I see a dog tied up outside in this heat outside a store, well, it makes me furious. I know dogs love their people and people love their dogs but sometimes a little separation is a good thing! Leave them at home where they will be comfortable.

  2. Last August during my trip to Vegas the rental car said it was 115 degrees outside. Heat is heat. Dry, wet, or any other variety, that was truly unpleasant.

  3. Correction, 3 idiots! And the latest one almost resulted in a traffic tragedy here in Toronto, the dog not the idiots.

    1. I think the whole province held its breath until that poor dog was finally taken to safety! During the heat wave Toronto police had 152 calls about animals left in distress. 60 of them turned out to be accurate. We only heard about three. And that’s just the GTA!
