Schmo-lympics

It appears that I’m lacking several genes found in most Canadian humans.  There’s the hockey gene, except in some specific instances, like if I’m attending a game.  The figure skating gene completely skipped me although I can appreciate the talent and skill.  And I don’t have the Olympics gene.

Athletes started arriving in London, England for the summer games and I don’t give a rat’s patootie.  I think the opening ceremonies are a waste of millions of dollars that could be spent on feeding people. I also don’t buy the flag-waving belief that our country wins a medal if someone who was lucky enough to be born in Canada wins one.  The whole thing leaves me cold.

So do I have to turn in my citizenship?

  1. Shhhh…but I feel the same way. I hope that when the Games get going I’ll be in the spirit (as, of course, we have to reflect our listeners’ interests) and I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for the women and men who’ve trained for these moments their entire lives. I just wish I could get swept up in it! Help!
