A Real Treasure

Lots of guys collect gas station memorabilia and for the one in this house, it’s Supertest, a company born in London and no longer in existence.

He has various items bearing the logo including still-full oil cans but the piece de resistance in such a collection is always a gas pump.  They’re not easy to come by and some of the older ones are priced right out of our snack bracket.  The stuff is just getting more collectible as time goes on.  But yesterday we took a trip to see one we found on Kijiji that wasn’t as ridiculously priced as some we’ve seen.  That can be a worry, too, because it can mean there’s something terribly wrong.  But sometimes you just get lucky.

The guy who restored it is a real collector and it’s pristine and perfect.  This is the kind of item you wait for.  And then you wrap it like it’s a Ming vase and strap it down to get it home safely along the 401. I’ve never particularly cared about gas station stuff but I have to admit, this is pretty darn cool.  I’ve seen how valuable they can be and how hard they are to find so…in other words, I get it.  Now it’s a proud part of manland and sure to bring a smile to every guy who sees it.
