A Hole Lot of Digging

We have ten feet of shiny, new PVC sewer pipe at our place. Too bad I can’t show it to you! And it looks like the issue was caught in the nick of time. The old pipe was coming apart at the connection and shedding flaps of its inside. No wonder we had plumbing issues.

It didn’t even take them a full day to complete the job.  The concrete patch in the basement is admittedly rough but it’s going to be covered with floor leveler and flooring anyway. This is what I came home to.

Large backhoe on our front lawn having dug up the garden at the front of the house. A pile of dirt is about 4 feet high.Down a hole about ten feet deep the end of a new piece of white PVC pipe can be seen coming from inside the house.A patch of basement flooring about the size of a welcome mat is opened up and crumbled. You can see a piece of new pipe inside.

They said the job would take the day so imagine my surprise when about 90 minutes after my arrival they told me they were done. I guess they allow for unforeseen issues but fortunately, there weren’t any. Whew!  They put back the dirt, cemented over the hole, tidied things up and off they went. They had even dug out a giant, overgrown grass that was too big to pull out by hand. The backhoe driver plucked it up with the bucket and took it away for me. My hydrangea trees were saved and that’s more than I was hoping for.

The job is guaranteed for 20 years. They ran the camera down the rest of the pipe to the road and pronounced it all in good shape. Let’s hope this is the last of the plumbing issues we have for at least another couple of decades.
