Sprucing up the Place

It became apparent during a recent water spill that the ancient carpet in my office/studio was past its best-before date.

When it got wet, it smelled like poo. I don’t think it was because of actual poo, but I can’t be sure. The previous owner smoked heavily and if the condition of the upstairs was any indication, he was not acquainted with cleaning implements. So durable, wood-look plank flooring was purchased but, boy, the thought of tearing everything down and moving it would wasn’t something either of us was looking forward to.

Then came the ant invasion. Things were moved for the exterminator anyway so, what was another day of packing and shoving heavy items out the door? My sister-in-law’s boyfriend is in the home reno/construction biz and had an opening in his schedule, so away we went. Even if the carpet hadn’t smelled like a wet turd, it was awful and when I peeled back all of the area rugs, this is what I saw. Then I remembered why I had covered it all with area rugs.

When Blair peeked under the carpet he found tile. Great, we thought. No crappy glue or cement to worry about. HA. Some of the tiles were popping up like crocuses in springtime and they all had to be removed.

And once that chore was finished, a very smelly layer of ancient glue was exposed.

The next day, and after only a few hours of work, this was the result.

Blair did a great job. The baseboards were glued on or he would have removed them – thank you again, prevous owner!

Blair’s business is doing anything and everything inside and outside the home, so, if you’re local and you need a guy, I know a guy. I will post a complete after picture of the studio once it’s all back in place and a few things are added. It may be a while! In the meantime, I don’t have to worry about terrible smells or breathing in ancient bacteria. It will be new bacteria only for me, thank you.
