Smarty Pants

A study claims first-born children are smarter than their younger siblings. According to the research, in a family of ten children, the first one would be smart and by the time you get to number ten, they’re basically a turnip.

That’s just a slight exaggeration! The German researchers found the IQ drop is about 1.5 points in each successive child, but they also fared poorer in personality tests. Researchers claim the first child gets the benefit of its parents’ undivided attention and gets a boost from having to teach things to their younger siblings.

However – and this is the good news for my baby brother – in a two-child family, the eldest has only a 60% chance of having a higher IQ, so the younger one still has a strong chance of overtaking them. My brother is smarter than me in many ways. I’m smart enough to admit it.

If you’d like more fodder to use to taunt your younger siblings, or to dismiss if you are a younger sibling – and that’s probably just because you’re part turnip – click HERE!
