Throwback Thursday – The Greatest Hits

Sometimes I get wistful about radio stations past. I miss the 680 News team, but they’re not even the same team anymore. People move on. Lives and careers change. My first radio job when I moved back to London was at 1039 FM, now Country 104, and they had assembled a good bunch of people there, too. As a sister station to powerhouse FM96, Fresh FM and AM 980, 1039 was the sibling that, frankly, got the least love in the station. It ambled along with a wishy-washy identity, having been The Hawk years before, and no one was quite sure what it should be. Now that it’s country, it’s got a better chance of finding its niche in the marketplace.

The 1039 broadcast team: Jeff MacArthur, Nicky Robertson, Leigh Robert, me, John Facey.

It was rare to get all of us on-air people together. Someone usually had to stay behind to stay on the air! I can’t remember the reason for this assembly, but I do recall that we were in Woodstock.

Jeff McArthur now hosts a talk show on 640 Toronto as well as co-hosting the morning show on Global TV. Nicky Robertson is going to be one of the best Moms of her generation. She’s out of radio and working in another industry while raising her daughter, Charlee. I’ve always said that Leigh Robert will never lose her job because she knows where all of the bodies are buried! I call her The Glue, because she holds things together at Country 104. And John “Face” Facey is a real estate agent in Barrie, and a married dad of an adorable son.

Thanks to Facebook, I can keep up with them all and watch their children and their careers grow. And like everything else, my time there was over in a flash.
