The Summer of Substitutes Comes to an End

After weeks with different on-air partners, and no partners at all, I can finally announce that I have a new cohost on what’s being called The All New Morning Show on 1290 CJBK with Lisa and Ken!

With no disrespect to the others, Ken Eastwood was my preferred choice from the start. I didn’t know him very well but we had met several times when I appeared on Rogers Daytime, which he hosted for many years, and at different events around the city. He was the morning host for many years on London’s BOB-FM, and therefore was a colleague of Derek’s.

When I got serious about doing voice-work, I ran into a snag one day with a client and I was baffled. Derek was out so I popped on Facebook and saw that Ken was online. I asked for his help and he walked me through the entire thing, saving the project and the day. When he was first approached about filling in on the CJBK morning show with me, he invited me to breakfast and we literally drew up a game plan for the show. We communicate through the day on ideas and guests and we both put in equal energy and effort. That’s so important in any type of professional partnership.

He’s just a good dude.

Ken and I have more in common than I would have imagined, and enough differences to make for interesting discussions. He and his wife – childhood sweetheart – Nora had three children. One son, Duncan, died earlier this year as the result of sepsis. (Can you believe it?) So we even have a common enemy.

We begin the new morning show tomorrow with a fresh approach, a cleaner sound (fewer breaks and commercials) and more voices from within the community. We’re ready to go! Put us in, coach!
