It’s only been a year since Derek had his 20-year ponytail lopped off.
He surprised me when he said he wanted to do it. That long hair had become a huge part of his identity. But leaving the broadcasting industry for good meant it was time for a new identity, I suppose, and the short hair really suits him. Not one person has said, oh, no – not the ponytail!
Since then, he has sold his bikes and mine is up for sale. We’re talking about retirement – not doing it right away, but planning where and how we want to do it. I suppose those things don’t mesh as well with a ponytail as they do with short hair.
I can’t help but also sometimes think of adorable wee Derek when I look at him now.
