A Beautiful Send-Off

Now that Erin Davis’ last CHFI morning show is over, her future is hers to create. She doesn’t feel like setting an alarm clock? She doesn’t have to. She doesn’t want to talk about tragedies in the news or what Adele is up to? She won’t. She can read/not read a newspaper when she wishes and choose how to spend her time. And that’s really what we all want. We might say we want wealth, but that’s only because wealth buys us freedom. Erin Davis, you’re free.

Our group at dinner - Mike Cooper, Rob, Me, Steve, Erin, Debbie

After a wonderful dinner out with Erin & Rob, Mike & Debbie Cooper and Steve Roberts, the three of us in the Davis condo retired early. Before we knew it, it was morning and we were entering the magical setting of Casa Loma.

Rob and Erin are hand-in-hand as we walk up to the front of the castle at about 520 am. It's still dark out.

As Erin entered, the show began and away it went until 9 am with a stream of guests, all of the CHFI team almost constantly posing for photos and treating their 200+ guests to a great time. People brought gifts.Erin cried. Rob cried. I cried! Oh heck, just about everybody got teary-eyed at some point during the show.

Kudos to producers Ian the General and Gord Rennie for knocking it out of the park for Erin’s last morning show, at Casa Loma. The setting was stunning and the guest list, spectacular. From video messages from the likes of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Keith Urban and Sarah McLachlan to appearances from designers Colin and Justin, Toronto Mayor John Tory and others, it was so smoothly executed that only those of us in the business can appreciate how difficult it must have been to pull together. And then the main men in her life, Ian, Gord, the wonderful Mike Cooper, Darren B. Lamb and, of course, Rob, danced her out of the ballroom to God Only Knows by the Beach Boys. Amazing.

Each guest received a leather-bound journal with Erin’s signature stamped on the front. It’s gorgeous. This was broadcasting history in the making. Twenty-eight years of waking up Toronto; it’s a rare feat. And now Erin and Rob (and little Molly their dog!) are off to their next set of adventures. She’ll still be doing something as-yet-undefined for Rogers radio. Heck, in his video message, John Tesh suggested the two of them should team up for a show! There will be a book, and who knows what else. I may have a closer seat to the stage than some, but I’m just as excited to see what happens next for this wonderful couple I’m proud to call my friends.

  1. It was such a beautiful send-off for a beautiful person. I enjoyed every minute of the show with you Lisa and I feel so honoured to have been asked to go. So thanks to you and Erin for the wonderful experience. I loved every minute of it.

  2. It sure was beautifully done and Erin looked so beautiful. So magical. So thankful and grateful to be a part of this bittersweet send off. Was great seeing you too Lisa.

  3. I was sitting in the hospital listening on my phone while I waited for my husband to have his surgery. The tears flowed as the end of an era was marked. It was beautifully done and I am sure that Erin and Rob, as well as all of us will remember this day for many years to come. I can’t wait to see where the road leads for Erin Davis.
