Go looking for Saguaro Cactus in Arizona if you ever want to feel tiny and young,

Derek stands between two cactuses that are at least 30 feet high each

You’ll encounter them south of Sedona, one of the most beautiful cities on the continent. That’s Derek in the centre, taken on our 2012 motorcycle trip through Arizona. These hearty plants are 75 years old before they grow their first arm. They’re magnificent.

The largest known living Saguaro is 43.5 feet tall and 10 feet in diameter. The tallest one ever recorded was 78 ft., but a windstorm brought it down. A little Arizona warmth would be welcome right about now but if you don’t want to travel, you can buy cactus seeds on Amazon and try your luck. Once they’re out of the youth stage, they don’t need much attention or water. All you really have to do is wait.
