The First Freelance Friday

The question I’ve been asked most often this week is, how long will it take you to sleep past 3 am?

Sleeping in, to me, has been 6 am. On the rare occasion when I sleep past 5 I feel like a million bucks. But it will take a little time for my body to believe that I’m not still punishing it by getting up in the middle of the night.

So now, in addition to taking moving company quotes, I’m freelancing. That means, “will write or speak for food”. There are a thousand different ways to get work when you’re a freelancer but I’ve found networking most effective. I have to tell people that I’m looking for work so, hey you, I’m looking for work! Writing articles, scripts, helping with grammar and resumes, descriptions of products and real estate, you name it. I’ve written website content, political speeches, biographies, promotional material and just about anything else you can think of.

And then there’s voice work. That’s easier to source online and even harder to get.

This was one of my favourite writing projects of the past few years. The McCartney Years was ready for the next level. They had a promotional video cut but weren’t satisfied with the script. I had so much fun immersing myself in the 1970s. Having seen the band play, and knowing how they transformed into Wings, it was a real thrill. This was the result. Stories? I’ve got a million of ’em. And I’ll write them for food.

  1. I love that you’re putting yourself out there – if you don’t, who will, right? I hope you’re getting lots of responses and that people who hadn’t even considered you might give them a thought, are suddenly realizing that someone as good as you will take them on! Good luck to you! xox
