So it’s Monday and perhaps you hit the keyboard needing to get several things done ASAP. Wouldn’t it be great if you could truly multi-task and really do a bunch of things at the same time? New research on the brain says fuggetaboutit. It concludes that we’re wired to juggle two things or make a choice between two things but the brain goes haywire if you throw in a third. …

Recently, on a boring drive to the middle of nowhere, I happened upon a radio show from another city. Two women were talking in giddy tones normally associated with free chocolate truffles or a George Clooney sighting. But their topic was much more mundane: house cleaning. …

To shave or not to shave, that is the question and it seems that many male celebrities are answering it by tossing their razors out their Lamborghini windows. The beard has caught on in a big way and that’s not necessarily a good thing. …
We all like to think we would be sensible if we won the lottery and – if I may speak for you – I think we would! But I read this little item from a newsletter and it just reminded me that sometimes some of us are not meant to experience certain things, and what can happen when something considered good goes very bad when it lands in the wrong hands. Who knows what changes would come with a sudden win of millions? Sure, we’d all probably like to find out but not everyone can handle it. …

I protested the ban saying it would lead to – and this is embarrassing – dizzy spells and feeling ill because I wasn’t getting my regular infusion of nicotine. I wish I was kidding. That was my defence and I lost, rightly. (My apologies to then-GM Al Skelton for the time I wasted being such an idiot!) …

Young actress Anna Paquin has come out and said she’s bisexual. Unless you watch vampire shows aimed at teens, and I do not, I mostly remember Anna from her role in The Piano, which won her an Oscar when she was somewhere around the age of a fetus. She also played a groupie in Almost Famous. …

Every month I send out a broadcasting tip to clients and colleagues.  Usually it’s something I wish someone would have told me early in my career because it would have saved me a lot of frustration. I keep colleagues on the email list, if they want, just to stay in touch.  So here’s the gist of what I sent out for this month: …

Last week I was on my way to a radio station event in London at the Grand Theatre on Richmond Street. It was a business function and I was appropriately dressed in what one might describe as business attire. In my hand, my large leather bag that holds my daily collection of cut veggies and bottled water as well as the container holding my big salad, my wallet and other essentials. …
