Spice, the 14-year-old wondercat, has been restless. When he was surrendered for adoption, he was part of a pair. Animal Aide in St. Thomas apparently tried to adopt them together but no one wanted two senior cats. They were both 11 at the time. So Chloe was adopted separately and we came to learn about Spice once he became a solo act. …
No matter how many years removed I am from paying my dues, and working every stat holiday, I’ll never stop being grateful that someone else has to do that now. …

As we entered the animal area of the Western Fair, I noticed a big sign for The Egg Marketing Board and a friendly-looking couple manning the booth. I had questions and they had answers. …
If I had a dime for every time I rolled my eyes when my Mom talked about her beloved Purple Martins, I might be able to knock a few working years off this life and retire early. Â …
In recent years, The Western Fair has been a little tired. We always go, but it just hasn’t had the zip and zest of years past. The first thing you’d see when you walked through the gates were hot tubs and bedsheet vendors. The midway was small and the rides pretty run-of-the-mill. I don’t even ride on rides anymore and I noticed the descent. …
Props to the Calgary Humane Society. Their cheesy idea to promote cat adoption worked and the video, Used Cat Salesman, has gone viral. …

Spice the wonder-cat, the head of security, the lead tiger of the house, is an indoor cat. He has no front claws, very few teeth, and when we adopted him at age 11 I signed a declaration promising to keep him inside. It’s for his own safety. I’m not a fan of roaming felines anyway, so it was a no-brainer. …

On Sunday afternoon, I was in the basement gathering some laundry I had hung to dry when a noise in the other room caught my attention. Spice was on the bookshelf behind the drum kit, knocking books onto the floor. “That’s weird”, I thought. “Spice doesn’t read.” …
It’s no secret that Spice the wonder cat, as he’s known around here, is the king of our castle. We adore him. He’s 14 now and at times he’s still as curious and playful as a kitten. …
Last Saturday morning was a worrisome time in the house of Spice the wonder-cat. He wouldn’t eat or move and our social little critter wasn’t interested in us. The vet’s office got us in for 10:40 am and although my brother-in-law was here to assist, I had no trouble pouring our beloved feline into his carrier. He had no fight in him. …
This brief video made me laugh out loud! It’s just ridiculous. I hope it does the same for you. I don’t know how it was done or why, but it’s my favourite 15 seconds of the moment. …
