The annual Botten-and-cousins-fest happened over the weekend. This is the one whose early, backyard days in Sharon, ON brought some of York Region’s finest in uniform to cap the noise.

…I do not have a tree that grows bunnies, but I do have a tree that bunnies live under.
…I’ve been enjoying the gentle purr of Miss Sugar, who seemed to have truly missed me! She greeted me with outstretched paws and a nuzzle. That’s over-the-top for a cat.
…I love small towns! Back when I rode my own motorcycle, Derek and I would pick a town hosting a festival and point in their direction for a weekend excursion. It’s a sweet, simple (but not easy) thing when a community comes together with a common goal.
…When we last left our 80-year-old bathroom, a contractor was due to start tearing out the cultured-marble shower and replacing it with subway tile. It’s happening!
…It’s two years today since my Dad died. Sometimes it feels like yesterday and other times I fear I’m already forgetting little things about him. No matter how old you are, losing a parent rocks your world. I’m just grateful to have had him in my life as long as I did.
…Like bears coming out of hibernation, we spent our first day outside on Saturday in sunshine and 18-degree warmth. Other than writing a quick magazine article, and recording a couple of lines for an eLearning client in California, the weekend was mine.
…CJBK morning co-host Loreena Dickson got married on the weekend. She invited the CJBK morning crew to the reception and I’m so grateful that I was included, despite being an ex-crew member.
…In our never-ending quest to get to know our new ‘hood, we took the Walpole Island Ferry to Algonac, Michigan.
…This old photo of me and my Dad is a fave of mine.
…What a wonderful weekend! Cousin Kim and I attended Erin Davis’s first book signing/interview for Mourning Has Broken, ahead of its official release on Tuesday.
…Some people freeze up at the word “cancer”. Some won’t read any further, they’re so scared of it. The fact is, cancer is a condition that many people live with. It’s scary, yes, but it’s also a blanket term whose pathology can vary widely, with equally disparate outcomes.
…I’ve been dying my hair for a couple of decades. Underneath all of that colour is dark brown hair that’s turning grey. What no one tells you about hair colour is, how the heck you stop! Is there no choice but to quit cold-turkey and let it grow out in a two-tone effect? There has to be a better way.
…When I moved from Toronto to London a decade ago, it was a bit like moving to Alaska. I felt far removed from the life I’d known for so long. I missed my colleagues and friends, and found the four-hour round trip was something I was only willing to do for special occasions. That worked the same in reverse, for those who (rarely) came to visit.
…Now that Marie Kondo has her own, popular TV show about her KonMari Method of tidying up, I can say I knew her when!
…Sometimes in life you have no choice: you simply have to iron. For some people, ironing is a zen activity, something they get satisfaction from. I’m not one of those people.
…That’s what Derek said when someone asked him how it’s going with our move to Wallaceburg. “All my stuff is here, everything I care about is here, so it must be home!”
