Pride – In the Name of Love

Recently, the couple at the center of this story told it, and I was there. I’m retelling it here, albeit without some specific, identifying details, because it isn’t my story. But I have two reasons for wanting to share it. 1. I think it’s awesome. 2. It shows once again that, in the words of my former KOOL-FM colleague Brian Bourke, “criminals are stupid”.

Throwback Thursday – Mom P.I.

When you live in the country, you watch out for your neighbours. You get to know each other’s routines and you keep an eye out for anything strange. Growing up outside of Smithville, Ontario, we saw it all. Teenagers dropping cases of beer in the reeds near our front pond for safe keeping. A neighbour’s kid, ploughing his car through our flock of ducks as they attempted to cross the road. Trespassing hunters from the city, wandering through our fields and woods, guns loaded, looking for deer.  …

Meet Joe

The story of Joe has captured the hearts of animal lovers in southwestern Ontario.  Some dirtbag shot the sweet little kitty with a pellet gun and he was found on the side of a road near death with 17 pellets in his head.   …

The Tide Turns on Weed

I’m not a pot smoker but I have done it in the distant past and I did inhale and hold it.  It made me paranoid.  I remember sitting in the corner at a Halloween party long, long ago, convinced everyone there was talking about me! I’ve never been a big fan of huge house parties anyway but that one was possibly my worst experience. I don’t ever plan to get acquainted with a joint again. …

Vehicle for Sale

Going cheap: 2005 Xtrail. Deep green with tan leather interior. Dependable. Always starts in the dead of winter.  Roomy. Low maintenance. Comfortable. Heated seats.  All of the electric bells and whistles work. Clean. The only thing wrong is it’s CURSED!   …

Weird Week at Work

Our radio station is in a nice part of the city.  It’s in a beautiful building on Richmond Row, the mecca of London’s downtown shopping and dining spots.  Just so you know that what I’m about to describe isn’t a shack in a derelict district of town.   …

A Brandt Randt – My Cup of Dumb Runneth Over

Why do I read comments on news stories?  They just make me crazy. Yet I’m drawn to them like an unlucky city slicker panning for gold. They’re almost as bad as comments about radio goings-on on the SOWNY or QUAD CITIES message boards.  In both cases the lion’s share of those involved are people spouting off about things they know nothing about.   …

Unoccupied

The occupation of London’s Victoria Park is over.  This may not be news to you.  It was covered nationally as city officials from across the country watched closely to see how the first forced eviction of an occupation would go. …

Strange Case Indeed

I’ve previously confessed to following fascinating New York City crime trials. Sometimes the court case concerns a story I wasn’t familiar with but my current mild obsession involves a case I’ve been watching since it first hit the New York Post. …
