When will special interest groups ever learn? You can’t change the world by yelling louder or staging stunts that don’t appeal to the masses.
Athiests in the US want the phrase, “so help me God”, to be stricken from Barack Obama’s inaugural speech. Obama isn’t requiring all Americans to say it along with him. He’s simply a man of faith and tradition and plans to follow his heart. So let him. My personal beliefs and yours have nothing to do with it.
There are many places where religion is innapropriate if it’s forced upon those who don’t believe. But this move just shows a tremendous lack of respect for the character of the next US President. Who is anyone else to tell him what he can and cannot believe?
I’ve studied faith and religion and athiesm and where I stand is my business, but no one has the right to tell me my stance is wrong. That’s what’s wrong with athiesm. Athiests claim to know. Agnostics admit the facts – no one knows for sure. A militant athiest is just as unappealing as a fundamental Christian. A my-way-or-the-highway approach only turns people off. For goodness sake, let the man have his day!
