Merry Christmas Eve Eve

merry christmas sign

‘Twas two days before Christmas and here by the lake, with things still do to and a cheesecake to bake.

I stopped and took stock of my own lucky life.

As a small business owner, a cat-mom, a wife.

I have so few worries and none come to mind.

The people around me are always so kind.

And still there are those whom we just can’t admire,

Including the orange-faced big dumpster fire.

This year has sure tested Canadian pluck.

Together we fought back with our elbows up.

We lost some great people like Billy and Scott,

And Kent whose quick passing left all of us shocked.

The bad news and losses remind us of how

our lives are so fortunate right here and now.

For all that we have, the good health and success

are meant to be savoured although nonetheless

we know circumstances can turn in a burst

it’s the reason we all want to try to be first

to help out a neighbour, a stranger, a friend

to say that we’re grateful, to make an amend.

It’s not about presents or spending a lot.

It’s love and togetherness by a long shot.

It happens today is the sixteenth occasion

that Derek and I mark our Vegas vacation

when we two eloped on a Harley we rented.

Was it tacky? Perhaps. But our union’s cemented.

I wish you a holiday full of good cheer.

And hope we’ll connect again in the new year.

With love, Merry Christmas if you celebrate, happy holidays if you don’t. Thank you for visiting. Lisa
