Score One for a Celebrity

Ashley Judd impressed the heck out of me and millions of other women when she fought back via a well-written essay against the idiotic tabloids that scrutinize and criticize women.

Judd was recently the subject of media speculation because her face was puffy.  Writers the continent over mused that the actress must have had plastic surgery.  In fact, she had been ill and the drugs she was on made her a little bloated.  But that’s just the most recent incident that has Judd worked up on behalf of all women.  You can read her essay here: http://bit.ly/HAhERX

I thought of it again today when I perused an entertainment site only to happen upon a link that read, “former hotties who’ve let themselves go”.  It was a collection of photos of women and how they used to look (sometimes decades earlier) and how they appear now.  It’s from a sleazy segment of the population that values a woman only on her looks.  Recently in Winnipeg an evening to honour the accomplishments of business women there was actually called, ‘The Beautiful Women of Winnipeg”.  It sounded like a pageant when it was anything but.   This society is really screwed up in how it views and assesses women.  So, what are we going to to about it?
