The Dull Side of Home Ownership

Every homeowner knows there are things that need doing that will never elicit an ooh or aah from a visitor.

I doubt there have been many parties to celebrate the acquisition of a new furnace or water heater.  Oh sure, everybody shows up with a towel when you put in a pool or hot tub but where is all of the admiration when you have the bathtub re-enameled?  Still, those jobs without glory need doing and I’ve been doing some of them this weekend.

It was easy to ignore (or in my case, not even notice) that the breezeway wall facing the neighbours’ house was peeling and flaking.  But it’s one of those things you can’t let go if you have any pride of ownership.  Normally I would hire College Pro Painters for a job like this but it was a little more spontaneous and urgent for that.  (We’re erecting a new shed there.) This is what I started the day with.

a wall with flaking and peeling white paint

There were three panels of that as well as posts and bare wood on the bottom.

I estimate I only got about 1/3 of the job done before calling it a day.  But it’s an improvement wouldn’t you say?

No one else is going to admire it so I might as well.

It will make my throbbing wrist feel better to pat myself on the back!
