My Liver Guy

I’m not sure why but I’ve been having some pretty vivid flashbacks to two years ago when I was very ill.

There’s nothing that compares to lying in a hospital bed being told there’s “something” wrong with one of your major organs and they’re working on figuring it out.  Then the medical people walk away and you start to do the math.  It takes an average of 3.5 years to find a donor.  You realize you might actually be finished. It’s a very sobering moment and one you don’t forget.

My story had a happy ending and it’s mainly thanks to one brilliant surgeon, Dr. Roberto Hernandez, and his team at University Hospital.  Normally there’s no way to properly thank a person like Dr. H. but one has come up and if I could bother you to go to a little trouble, you could help, too.  Dr. H. is in the running for Latino Man of the Year in London.  In order to vote, you do need to register and wait for an emailed password.  It’s not a simple click.  But I know he would be honoured to get the win and it would be a favour to me if you’d cast your vote for him.  Click the following link and then click the colourful banner in the middle of the page – it’s all in Spanish!  (My browser translates it for me.) The rest is self-explanatory.  Thank you.  http://magazinelatino.com/

And I must thank my Liver Sister, Kelly Maher at FM96, who alerted me to the contest.  Kelly also received excellent care from Dr. H!
