Go Sports!

There’s a terrific episode of The Big Bang Theory where Penny allows Leonard to come over and watch football with her and her friends. Leonard, in case you don’t know, is a brilliant scientist who knows nothing about football, baseball, golf, rugby, hockey, cricket or probably even speed walking. He’s a geek. So he ruins the game by spouting general facts he learned from Wikipedia after plays are made. It’s a turnabout on sexual stereotypes and it’s funny.

But my favourite part is when Leonard lifts his shirt and on his chest, written in red, is GO SPORTS! Since it aired, I will sometimes come into the livingroom when the NFL is on and ask hubby, “So how is the sports match?” It’s an inside joke. I do enjoy a bit of football and I really enjoy NASCAR. I like live baseball, not on TV, and I used to golf until I broke my big toe and lost interest while it healed. But this meme still speaks to me, I guess because I’m not really a fan of any team or anyone. This is what it sounds like when people like me watch an athlete get interviewed.

cartoon conversation between an interviewer and a football player. An example of the conversation: You were sportsing pretty hard out there. A lot of sports happened. Why do you think you lost? And the player answers: We sportsed our best and scored points but the other team sportsed harder and scored more points.
