Way to Go, Jo

To most of us, she is JK Rowling, insanely successful author of the Harry Potter book series. The woman who made it cool for kids to be bookworms. Her friends call her Jo.

As if that accomplishment wasn’t enough, she, much like fellow Brit Ricky Gervais, stands up to bullies for those who can’t. For example, Rowling tweeted her delight after Ireland approved gay marriage. When the horrible Westboro Baptist Church responded that its members would picket a social media statement saying they would picket a wedding between her fictional wizard Dumbledore and the Lord of the Rings wizard Gandalf, Rowling fired back, “Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.”

Awesome.

And now they could get married anywhere in the United States, too.

But Rowling’s support of her fellow humans doesn’t stop with sexual orientation. This meme traveled through social media last week. It sums up the best possible response to fat shaming I’ve ever read.

"Is fat really the worst thing a human can be? Is fat worse than vindictive, shallow, jealous, vain, boring, evil or cruel? Not to me."
