Tourist in Our Own City

This weekend gave us the opportunity to use fresh eyes to show our dear friend Eric around London.

Eric and I met because he hired me to do a voice job and we hit it off in a big way. I’m his sister from another mister. He is a solid gold soul with a heart as big as Texas, even though he lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

I took him shopping. He needed to visit Hudson’s Bay, downtown and a few other choice locations. On Saturday night we went to The Keg for steak (it’s a Canadian chain, don’t forget!) and then wandered through Victoria Park to Santa’s House, the twinkling winter wonderland and the outdoor rink.

As a commercial airline pilot, Eric is more familiar with Canada than most Americans. He has spent plenty of time in our major cities and was in the air when 911 happened and got grounded in Halifax. The stories from that experience are alternately chilling because of the circumstances and heartwarming because of the East Coast hospitality.

How can you not love someone who picked up on a one-time mention of my love for Grumpy Cat and gave me the best t-shirt ever?

Me, making a grumpy face while holding my new Grumpy Cat t-shirt. The cat face is the size of an ottoman!

I should probably add that this was the first time we all met in person despite regular visits via social media and Skype. It’s the world in which we now live. I’m so grateful he came and let us explore our city and fall in love with it all over again.
