March Saneness

So many young people. Millions around the world and even some in my own city, joining in Saturday’s March For Our Lives. Also, Parkland school shooting survivors and others, enduring taunts and ridicule from adult gun advocates. But gathering support from thousands of others. You likely saw coverage of the size of the crowds, especially in Washington where President Trump fled before it began. (Ironically, he went to his retreat in Florida while teens from Florida arrived in Washington.)

What follows is a collection of tweets that hit me in the core of my being. It’s not a comprehensive list or meant to do anything except perhaps show you some postings you may have missed. These kids are awesome. They’ve changed my mind about lowering the voting age. They give me hope for the future. And no matter where you stand on the complex issue of gun control you have to admit, they’re encouraging the conversation. And if you’re with them, you can’t help but feel proud of them.

Tweet from an Army Veteran calling on other Veterans to support banning assault rifles. And a tweet from Alan Alda asking how many more students have to die and go to class in fear before something is done. He includes a photo from the Los Angeles march showing a gathering of students holding signs. One reads Thought and Prayers are not enough.

Tweet from an Army Veteran including a photo of him in the desert holding an AR-15. He lists the training he's had and says this gun should never be in civilian hands. He says, if you think you need it to protect your home you need to reevaluate your life.

Picture of a student at a march holding up a sign that reads: There should be a background check before the NRA is allowed to buy a Senator.Tweet from the organizer of the March, Jacklyn Corin, reminding everyone that each congressman has a local office in his/her hometown and they're home from Washington for the next two weeks because Congress isn't sitting. Fox News Host tweets that marching against the NRA isn't a solution. "March FOR something". A teenager replies, "It's literally called the March FOR Our Lives"

  1. Love this and agree 100%. The comments on Twitter after some of these posts were just laughable, especially the ones explaining to the real soldier that the guns on the street are not the same as the one in his picture (chrome and sights apparently differ – but that’s it). Imagine having the jam to try and correct a guy who’s actually used these weapons of mass destruction! And hats off to you, Lisa – of all of the hundreds of headlines and captions, not once did I read “March Saneness”. Sums it up perfectly. You’ve still got it, Miss Lisa.
