I was in Little Beach Shop here in Port Stanley one day last fall, poking around. Ann, the proprietor, had a sign for sale that looked familiar.
I came home, certain I needed to have that sign. You see, friends Jim and Pam gave us the same one when we got married. But where did ours go? I didn’t know and neither did Derek.
One box of our stuff didn’t make it from Wallaceburg to Southwold to Port Stanley. In it, was a cast iron doorstop and other things. Fast-forward a couple of years and I assumed the “missing” sign was one of those things.
I bought Ann’s sign and Derek hung it above the pantry doors.
One day, I was upstairs doing something and looked up. Way up. What was that above the linen closet door? Our original sign.

They Say the Memory is the First to Go
How does something like this happen? Well, in the flurry of moving in and setting up the house, we forgot we put up the original sign. It was in a short hallway you pass through. There’s no direct route to where it hung so we just didn’t see it.
Two signs of this nature? Overkill. I could almost hear the cat saying, we get it already! I took down the one over the linen closet. My nature abhors a nail hole so I started thinking about what I could put in its place. I told Derek I had an idea and I needed to start collecting sticks again. He admitted he didn’t get rid of the last batch of sticks and little driftwood I didn’t think I needed. Yay!
What I Did With My Sticks
The last time I hoarded sticks, Erin Davis helped me, and I ended up making a driftwood and twig wreath. This time, I found a few more sticks on the beach but my saved collection had the best ones. I spent a glorious couple of hours with my twigs and a glue gun.

It’s a fish, in case that’s not obvious.
People pay money for this stuff, not that I plan to go into business. I just love doing crafty things. The less perfect they are, the better. Good thing, huh? 😀
The original sign is hanging over the pantry doors. It’s a sweet moment when someone sees it. But if anyone went upstairs and saw it again, they probably gagged a little!
What a beautiful fish!
Thanks, Roberta!
Oh Lisa you are quite the crafty one. Love the fish and all your creative craftiness.
Thanks, Carolyn. We have a mutual admiration society, here. 🙂
