Brandt’s Randt Gets Personal

This is a story that will end up on page 4 of your local paper but to me, it’s a big deal.

When I was very ill three years ago, I had to get transfusions of “frozen fresh plasma” to thicken my blood so they could do testing and not have me bleed uncontrollably. By the way, they never call it “plasma”. It’s only ever referred to as “frozen fresh plasma” even if it’s said five times in the same sentence! But I digress.

We, as a community, often run out of blood products.  So I find the Health Minister’s stance a little odd and somewhat hypocritical. And I randt.

  1. I will have to agree with the Health Minister’s position on this issue. to say, lets pay for blood donations if it will encourage people to donate, takes a much to simplistic view of the complexities of maintaining the integrity of our health system and merely addresses the symptom of a lack of blood donations, not the underlying problem. You will never resolve anything if you try and fix a problem by addressing the symptom. Yes, I do remember your health issues of a couple of years ago and how we could have lost you.
