Brief Thoughts on a Dark Week

person sitting on brown wood log

A friend and supporter of the US President is shot and killed. A student opened fire at another high school. Just another week in the USA.

Charlie Kirk said and believed, in my opinion, some truly awful things about guns, empathy, women, and races. But whoever murdered him just radicalized hundreds of like-minded people who came out to hear him speak in Utah. Taking someone’s life isn’t the answer. It won’t make anything better. American health insurance hasn’t improved one iota since the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

There’s a case to be made for eliminating a dictator who’s exterminating millions of citizens. Otherwise, the shooter makes a martyr out of his victim. They kill the man but not his ideas, which can’t be killed.

I recently wrote a blog post about how Stoics handle the madness and negativity of an endless news cycle. If you’re interested, you can read it HERE. I wish you a peaceful weekend.

  1. We are all part of the generation who will and are witnessing the disintegration of America and the American dream. I have a great deal of sympathy for the average American citizen who are powerless or have become polarized.

  2. Thank you for the link to your other article. So helpful. My heart breaks for the 11/2 year old toddler and his family. My thoughts are with everyone who was injured at the daycare. It is so heartbreaking. Thanks to your article I will be constructive in my actions through donations to the family and the daycare.
Lisa, I wish you a peaceful weekend, too.

    1. Update..Contacted Doug Ford to pass Liam’s Law. Liam is the sweet and innocent toddler at the Toronto daycare. It has happened twice before in London. Must never happen again.

  3. “American health insurance hasn’t improved one iota since the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.” Powerful, powerful point.

In spite of all the craziness this week, I do believe most Americans are decent people. But not the political leaders who try to appeal to their fears and anger.

Wishing you peace, safety, and good health this weekend, too!

  4. I’m glad I read your excellent blog post. Lee & I often talk about the stuff we can’t control (most things!) and it doesn’t mean we don’t care. We just know to not put huge energy into thinking about those things and to do what we can to help in this world.
