Uniformity

I can’t count how many times I’ve forgotten what I wore to work earlier in the week. Or the day before. Or earlier that same day. Sometimes I have to check the laundry basket to confirm it. It’s partly because of chronic fatigue. I could organize my closet in such a way that my outfits would rotate evenly, but I don’t.

I’d love to be able to wear the same thing every day. I have a couple of dresses that are versatile and comfortable, and double as tunics that can be worn with leggings. I could probably pull it off.

A young woman, Megan Radford, decided to do a social experiment. She wore the same black dress for thirty straight days. With different accessories and footwear, she says no one noticed that she was wearing the same dress every day. And without planning for this experiment, she found that she had enough belts, sweaters, tights, etc. to not repeat outfits for twenty straight days, and that surprised her.

Part of the reason Megan did this was to prove that we all have enough “stuff”. She also attracted a lot of social media followers, and used her influence to convince people to purchase warm and durable clothing for kids via the World Vision catalogue. She discovered she owned way more than she needed, and decided to share some of her “wealth” with others. (She gives me hope for the future!)

If you’d like to see how Megan pulled it off, she used the social media hashtag #1dress1month and wrote a story about her experiment HERE.
